The second quarter meeting of Hynes Lakeview PTO membership was called to order at 6:00 PM on Thursday, August 28, 2025 in Hynes Cafeteria.

  • PTO Overview
    • How the PTO works
      • PTO is made up of ALL Hynes Lakeview faculty, staff, & parents/guardians
      • There are $-0- membership dues 
      • The purpose of the PTO is to support through fundraising and other volunteer efforts the furtherance of high standards of education, training, and practice at Edward Hynes Charter School- Lakeview.  The Hynes Lakeview PTO is a 501(c)3.
      •  We believe that through positive communication and parent and community involvement (at home, school, and in the PTO), all children can be successful in school and in life.

  • First Day School Supplies (Brenda)
    • Thank you to everyone who volunteered and donated to the First Day school supplies – raised nearly $3k!!
  • Hynes Spirit Store (Shannon)
    • NEW ITEMS: Such as, neck fans, festival chairs, hair accessories! 
    • Items can be purchased online
  • Uniform Exchange (Brenda)
    • Thanked the Uniform committee for their hard work
    • To be noted:  You may bring gently used uniforms to the front office for the uniform exchange. A laundry bin is near the front door to collect uniform donations. Please do not send in completely worn out/ripped/badly stained uniforms. 
  • Class Captains (Coordinators – Jacqueline & Eileen)
    • Purpose: Captain helps ensure info gets out to parents
    • Each class has more than one parent volunteer – except we need volunteers for 6th and 8th grade traditional classrooms
    • Let the PTO/Coordinators know if interested
  • Hynes Men’s Committee (Anh)
    • What do they do?
      • A lot of heavy lifting! 
      • Thanks to the members who volunteered to put out mulch
    • Ask: Volunteers for Back to School BBQ!
  • Les Amis Committee (Leah – co-chair)
    • Purpose: this is the branch of PTO that supports French immersion side of Hynes

  • Guest Speaker: Dr. Lacey Ellis
    • Dr. Ellis is the founder of Acorn Pediatric Consulting and is a licensed psychologist 
    • Please see slides for detailed presentation from Dr. Ellis which referred the book, “The Anxious Generation” and covered the parent/child  issue of addiction to phones and social media

    • Celebrations
      • Thank you – PTO and families, Les Amis and Hynes Men’s Committee for their work in August (play yard, Early Childhood Picnique, Cheers and Tears, Blood Drive, Volunteers for Supplies (uniforms)
      • Thank you – PTO for sponsoring a Back to School Happy Hour for staff and the upcoming Happy Hour for parents
      • Thank you – to all who attended the first PTO meeting of the school year and showing support for the PTO and Hynes faculty and staff
  • L4S Members
    • Purpose: Drive goals and decisions for the school. Additional staff leaders who help teams work collaboratively
    • Members are:
      • Amanda LaGarde, Heidi LaGarde, Rachel Koch, Alex Mossing, Jean Baptiste Gervreau, Samantha Marocco, Tracey Sam, Thomas Wright, and Kellie Dejan
  • Saddle Up For New Adventures
    • SFA Wings 5th addition – updated reading program!
      K-2 Gallopades – new social studies curriculum
    • Lower School joins the HOUSE-
      • It’s a program that joins the PBIS system
      • 2nd and 3rd are in their own Houses
      • There are House competitions
      • Earn “Critter Coins” – students are recognized for good decisions
      • Kicks off 8/29
  • K-3 Match Universal Screener
    • Helps ID where their lowest points are to get them on level
  • Zearn K-8
    • Compliments Eureka Math 
  • 1-5 Grade Amira Support
    • Reading support put in enrichment classes to continue to grow in reading
  • If you do a Zearn mission at home – let the kiddos do it by themselves because the teachers watch the scores in class and will assess
  • Family Survey results  (Margo)
    • Highest:

      • More art is wanted; lack of enrichment afterschool choices
  • Leap results
    • Named NOLA-PS Top 10 School for Overall LEAP Performance for 2024-25!
    • 85% of K-3 students scored at or above benchmark on DIBELS.
    • K-3 Literacy Goal was met!
  • French Delf Results
    • 96% of Hynes 5th Grade students scored on level or above on the DELF
    • Acknowledged dedication of French families and their support
  • School wide goals for 2025-2026 (Susan)

      • Attendance goal: 94% of students will demonstrate on time school attendance with less than 10 tardies for the school year
      • Behavior goal: 95% of K-8 grade students will attend PBiS
