The second quarter meeting of Hynes Lakeview PTO membership was called to order at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 in Hynes Cafeteria.

  • PTO Officers update
    • Open Officers Roles for two year terms (2026-2028):
      • Vice President: Brittany Carrasquillo
        • Brittany was voted on unanimously for this position
      • Volunteer Director: this position is needed, please email Hynes PTO or reach out to Sarah Gould (currently holds position)

    • Events have been successful and for the most part, on budget. We still have Spring events coming up!

    • PTO funds provided a coffee and treat card for teachers on this day in December

    • Grandparent Volunteer (NEW) Program
      • Grandparents volunteered to host coffee carts for teachers two mornings this fall. It was a hit!

  • Sweetheart Dance (Anne & Jamie)
    • Thank you to the committee and sponsors!
    • Patrick from the Men’s Club spoke and shared that it’s his girls favorite Hynes event. The kids love running around and being independent. The outfit is very important.
    • There’s 153 tickets left and there’s still time to get your ticket! 
  • Role Update: World’s Finest Chocolate & Spirit Store (Shannon)
    • We will need someone to take on this role of overseeing WFC and the Spirit Store for Shannon. This individual would step in next school year to work alongside Shannon and then to take over the following year. Let the PTO know if you are interested.
  • World’s Finest Chocolate 
    • Went home today, 1/21
    • Cash, check or square site are payment options
    • Funds are due on Feb. 5th
    • Shannon is at Hynes for the next two weeks from 9am-12pm. If you’d like to speak with her about her volunteering to run WFC or Spirit Store, pop on by!

    • The PTO Office is getting organized – this IS something to celebrate. Sorted Professional Organizing is doing this and donating their services!

School Update (Dawn) 

  • Student of the year
    • Hynes students are Regional Finalists!!
    • We are celebrating them – the kids are being interviewed tomorrow online!
      • 5th grade student of the year – Reese Poree
      • 8th grade students of the year – Siya P
    • LMEA All State Middle School Orchestra
      • Students, Siya P and James J, were selected for the LMEA All State Middle school Orchestra. This is an intensive program ending with a big performance. Both students play the violin. 
  • Awards
    • The school superintendent held a state of the district address
    • All schools were invited and celebrated!
    • Hynes Lakeview Won 5x Awards!
    • Expressed thanks to parents for supporting staff
  • SWIP aka School Wide Impact Plan 
  • 25-26 Schoolwide Goals (Heidi)
    • By May 2026…
    • Reading Goal: That 88% of students that are on reading level
      • Q1 results – 87%
      • Q2 results – 90%
  • DIBELS (Susan)
    • Beginning of the year – 76% students in K-3 grade were at or above benchmark on Dibels
    • GOAL – By May 2026, 88% of K-8th students will score at or above benchmark or grow by one level
    • Middle of the year – 85% of K-3 students were at or above benchmark on Dibels
    • Through the year the tests get harder so sustaining and growing is quite an accomplishment
    • Note that this test is given one on one with the child and teacher.
    • YOY – we were at 78% last year and now at 85%! 
  • What’s going on around Hynes Lakeview (Dawn & Leah)
    • Winter Sports: Soccer, Basketball
    • Afterschool: Cheer and Pep, Theater, Choir, and Band
    • Field Trips: Libraries, LOOP Nola, Ogden Museum, Starbase, and many more!
    • NJHS:
      • Last quarter a diaper drive was completed in partnership with the Junior League
      • Please Remember to save Mardi Gras beads and throws for our upcoming bead drive to support St. Michaels School and the Spring Fair.
      • Invitations to apply for next year will be going out to middle school students very soon. Students with a GPA of at least 3.25 and a 90 or above in behavior are eligible. 
  • French Immersion  (JB)
    • Middle school students acted as reading coaches and language coaches for the younger immersion students
    • Younger students met the author, Susie Morgenstern, a francophone author. They celebrated reading, storytelling and both French language/culture.
  • Hynes Lakeview Summer Camp (Dr. Wright)
    • Camp Dates
      • Week 1: May 25-29
      • Week 2: June 1-5
      • Week 3: June 8-12
    • Breakfast and lunch are served daily
    • Have a library and water day!
    • Registration starts soon! Grades K – 4 only. 
  • Parent Reminder: Be “All In” with Us (Dawn)
    • Grades – Look for these in the Wednesday folders and check PowerSchool
    • Agendas – Please sign weekly
    • Dismissal – please be careful if you have a walker and are waiting at the gate. They are not to play, jump, throw balls, in that area. 
    • Social Media – (including group chats)
      • Please continue to watch if there is something distracting on the child’s phone. This can be things like cyber bullying, teasing, getting them off task. 
      • Don’t be afraid to ask your child for their phone as you own it. 
      • Please talk with your child about how scary the internet can be.
  • Family Wellness Challenge (Ms. Tracy)
    • The Hynes staff is doing a Wellness Challenge and would love for Hynes Families to join in the movement! 
    • These wellness challenges can improve your family’s physical health, reduce stress and build stronger bonds. 
    • Take part in activities such as a family walk, yoga, dance party, etc.

    • 2/12: King Cake Day and Chocolate Celebration; 12pm dismissal and no Husky care
