The second quarter meeting of Hynes Lakeview PTO membership was called to order at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, April 14 2026 in Hynes Cafeteria.

Treasurer Update 

  • Budget is ahead by $29K thanks to the Hynes community.
  • Remaining expenses (Teacher Appreciation) will slightly adjust totals.
  • Budget will be reviewed again at the start of the new school year.

Events

Wild Wild Fest 

  • PTO is moving to Google Photos, see Parent Square PTO message for link.
  • Thank you to fair sponsors!
  • Sponsor thank-you notes will be sent from students.

Hollywood Nights 

  • The event raised $5K!
  • A big thanks to the organizing team. Photos of the event can be found using link in deck.
  • Special thanks to Chairs Anne & Jamie.

Hynes Men’s Club 

  • Thanks to Wild Wild Fest volunteers! Shared group chat link in deck.
  • Golf Tournament – April 17 (includes 11 AM, lunch & drinks, prizes).
  • There is a “Principal’s Lounge” afterparty with DJ, drinks, dinner.

Spring Fling 

  • Adults-only event – April 18 at Katie and Chris Justin’s House from 3pm-6pm.

City Park Night

  • Friday, May 8 (6–9 PM).
  • Tickets –  Pre-order: $13 and Onsite: $18. They are being provided at a discounted rate due to the rain from the earlier City Park Night.

Volunteer Update 

  •  ~180 volunteers at the fair!!

Grandparents Club

  • The first club meeting was successful and the club will be led by Melissa Payne.
  • 30 attendees at the first meeting!!!
  • It was a successful first meeting and a Board established.

Teacher Appreciation Week

  • The week of May 4th-8th will be full of Teacher Appreciation with the following PTO arranged schedule:
    • Mon: Coffee cart
    • Tues: Lunch
    • Wed: Sweets/snacks cart
    • Thurs: Chair massages
    • Fri: Breakfast

Give Back Nights 

  • Raised $1K+ from Boil & Barrel!
  • Upcoming Give Back Nights:
    • Reginelli’s: April 21–22
    • Second Line Brewing: May 16

2026–2027 Partnership Plans 

  • Launching Husky Pack Partnership Program!
  • The sponsor visibility will be year-round.
  • The giving levels will be from $500–$5,000.

Les Amis Updates 

  • Petit Dej takes place on April 16, at 8 AM
  • Quebec Meeting is mandatory for all those going and is on May 4 at 4:30 PM
  • Please let Leah Glade know if you are interested in being the next Les Amis chair!

Principal Update (Dawn)

  • Thanked staff and PTO for all their work this school year 
  • She highlighted family engagement and the great turn out for the PTO meeting – pizza and play night
  • Teachers expressed gratitude to the PTO as well

School Wide Impact Plan

  • Title I Updates ~ Targeted assistance for student growth continued
  • Two para professionals ~ Targeted to help with student success
  • Continued Interventionists to provide support for Tiered interventions
  • Parent Liaison ~ instrumental in 3rd quarter with working with parent communication with PTO and families as well as helping with attendance, NJHS service projects and new inductees
  • Title II Updates ~ Professional Development ~ SFA Conference/Plain Talk
  • Instructional Coaches participate in monthly sessions in leadership development with the School Leadership Center
  • Title IV Updates ~ Providing students with well-rounded education by staff ~ use of Wayfinder and staff partnered with KidsmART artists in Spring

Hynes Lakeview Goals – By May 2026

  • K–3 Literacy: 88% of K–3rd grade students will score at or above benchmark on DIBELS or grow by one level.
  • Reading: 88% of K–8th grade students will read on or above level or grow by one level according to the GATES MacGinitie Reading Inventory and the ROOTS Reading Assessment.
  • 3rd–8th ELA: 82% of 3rd–8th grade students will score STRONG overall performance on the ELA LEAP Assessment or meet their growth measurement target.
  • Math: 70% of 3rd–8th grade students will score STRONG overall performance on the Math LEAP Assessment or meet their growth measurement target.
  • Science: 60% of 3rd–8th grade students will score STRONG overall performance on the Science LEAP Assessment or meet their growth measurement target.
  • Social Studies: 65% of 3rd–8th grade students will score STRONG overall performance on the Social Studies LEAP Assessment or meet their growth measurement target.

Reading/Literacy Goal

  • WE DID IT! 88% of K–8th grade students will read on or above level or grow by one level according to the GATES MacGinitie Reading Inventory and the ROOTS Reading Assessment.

What’s Happening Around Hynes

  • KITE and DIBELS are in full swing – wrapping up next week. LEAP starts April 22nd. Roots Assessments starts April 28th.
  • Sports in progress: Tennis, Track and Field, Softball – Girls – JV/Varsity; Baseball – Boys – JV; Girls on the Run
  • Pickle Ball – More info coming soon for 4th – 6th grades
  • Theater Clubs – Hercules was a huge success! Theater games for younger students begin this week.
  • TAT and TAV – Showcase – April 30th along with the Hynes band and choir – performing.
  • NJHS Inductee Ceremony – tomorrow evening @6
  • Math Counts and Academic Games – had a successful competition year bringing home quite a few trophies and awards! Thank you Mrs. Mason for coordinating and coaching!

Poetry Event

  • Pizza Poetry Project – Anyone ordering a pizza in the city of New Orleans on April 15 got a bit of lagniappe with their pie… they got a poem written by a New Orleans school kid ages 6-18 included in the box!

Summer Learning

Avoid the summer slide with these tips:

Reading

  • Read daily – 20 mins.
  • Incentives – Pizza Hut has one!
  • Question them on what they read – 5 W’s
  • Visit your local library
  • Free reading websites like Readworks.org

Math

  • Set up free Zearn summer account
  • Fluency facts – addition, subtraction, multiplication
  • Board games – Monopoly, UNO, dominoes, etc.
  • Cooking – using measurements
  • Shopping

Surveys – Your Voice Matters

·       5th & 8th grade participation.

·       Used for planning.

Relentless Focus

  • Strong academic push through end of year!
  • Safety drills, uniforms, communication.
  • Shared gratitude to the parents!
